My experience:
I reached out to Ella because I know she has photographed and modeled for VERGE, the fashion magazine on campus. From what I’ve seen on their social media, I really liked her vibe and wanted to ask if she’d be down to model.
I had a few ideas going into this fashion assignment. Two ideas I had was a high contrast high shadow studio lighting black and white assignment. I also really wanted to do a photoshoot on the train tracks at a place where there was some visually interesting graffiti.
Ella was interested in doing both, so that’s what we did. I was really excited to experiment a bit with these, too. I knew since she also has done photography that she would understand the experimentation aspect of photography.
We did the black and white photoshoot first. Then the next week we did the train track photos.
The train track photos, I really wanted to have a fancy outfit to combat the graffiti vibe. I thought it would be a cool contrast. We also did this shoot after I used the color gels for the first time with Ella See, so I wanted to try them with Ella Bussa, too. These turned out amazing. The orange color really went well with all the background colors. It also both contrasted and complimented the sunlight, too.
The black and white photos, it was definitely trial and error. I wanted to shoot at a few different locations, but nothing was really working for me. I ended up just checking out a background from the department and then setting it up in the Moore Hall student work lab with all the computers on the 4th floor.
I got lucky with the lighting for this assignment, too. There was a window in the room with gorgeous natural light. When combined with the lighting I used, it ended up working really well.
