For this assignment, we were tasked with shooting two Fashion Portraits: one on location and one with a background. For my location, I decided to do the Art Gallery on the campus of Central Michigan University. For my background, I used a white background mostly because they were out of black backgrounds, but it worked out well due to my model wearing a darker colored outfit.

To do the location picture, there was no one in the gallery, so my model and I have all the space we wanted to shoot. I tried to focus on her as much as possible as to not draw attention away from her with the art in the background. My subject for this one, Anna Konen, is studying fashion merchandising and loves to model. She was an easy subject because she knew what she wanted to do and what she thought would look best. She also has a great sense of chic and bold style.

I mostly used the umbrella for the location assignment, because the light in the gallery added so much to the pictures that I thought the umbrella was really the only source of light I needed to add. I think it works best with the outfit and overall vibe of the location as well. If possible, and if I had more batteries to make it work, I would have tried a backlight in some of the darker pictures, but overall, I think these turned out better than those would have anyway.

To do the background fashion portrait, I set up and tried to blow out the background to get rid of some of the wrinkles. There was a minor issue with batteries and not having enough, so I was unable to use a backlight, but because the background was white, I feel as though they still look good. I used Lightroom to remove as much of the wrinkles as possible. My subject for this was Caitlin Smith, who has not modeled much before, but has an amazing sense of street wear and bold style.

1: Such a good idea for the location for the first set of photos. I think the black outfit with the light environment really makes her stand out. Her poses and serious face also match the environment. The lighting looks really good.

2: I love how you matched the stool to the outfit. I know you said you were hoping to get a background, but I really like them against the white, I think the bright colors look really good against it.

I love the location you chose for the first shoot! I really like the one of your subject sitting on the bench looking up at you. I wonder if you could blurry out the background just a tad to make it a little less distracting from your subject. For the second shoot, you did a good job with the white background and getting out most the wrinkles. I really like the addition of the green stool to go with your subject! Nice job!

The location for the first group of photos was a good idea! think I like the photo of the subject sitting cross-legged on the bench the best. I like that the picture frames in the background add a little detail. I like the lighting in the second group of photos and how the colorful stools add a pop of color.
